WorldSkills Lyon 2024

10/08/2024
After a week full of excitement, utmost concentration and pushing their skills to the limits, Enrico Putzi and his teammate Florentin Kaufmann were awarded the Medallion for Excellence for their outstanding performance in the mechatronics discipline!

Winning the gold medal at last year’s SwissSkills opened up the way to Lyon for the two talented automation technicians. Since then, they went through an intense training program, meeting regularly at the CEDES headquarters in Landquart and taking part in training sessions open to the public in some spectacular places, like in the amazing scenery on the peak of Säntis. Check out their blog on www.mechatronics24.ch for impressions from this exciting journey.

“I took part in the WorldSkills 2024 as a programmer and had the opportunity to compete with other people from all over the world, which was a fantastic experience,” says Enrico Putzi, who completed his automation apprenticeship at CEDES earlier this year. “I am very grateful that CEDES made it possible for me to participate in the championships and supported me all the way to Lyon.” Our COO Rüdi Jörg sums up: “Having talented young people in the company who are self-motivated to show such commitment should not be taken for granted. We support and value our apprentices, because in the end we all benefit from it.”

Another highlight: in addition to the Medallion of Excellence, Enrico and Florentin received Festo's award for the most sustainable working method, as they used the least amount of compressed air and energy when carrying out their tasks. The two emphasized that they did not specifically aim for the award and that their success is based on their normal way of working. This reflects the values of their vocational training companies CEDES and Bühler AG, where sustainability is a top priority.

We are extremely proud of the achievements of our two champions and the entire SwissSkills National Team - with 7 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze medal, they’ve made it to “Top 3 of World” and “Best Nation of Europe” together!
